This poet has a way of seeing things in great detail and often picking up on the implied meaning in very ordinary scenes or objects. Like an artist, Luci Shaw notices the fine grades of a shade of color and how the slant or angle of light affects it.
Shaw's poetry is unrhymed, yet usually broken into stanzas so visually they appear as conventional poems or songs. This gives the impression they are insightful thoughts pushed electronically into shapes. No doubt she put more work into it than that.
Poetry is a very personal word-art meant to explore what that individual sees or experiences. It is successful when others can capture that glimpse or emotion. Shaw's insights are not necessarily the ones you or I would turn into a poem, or in her style, but she certainly succeeds in sharing what she saw or heard.
