Did you know that you can take yourself firmly in hand, and speak to your body or the things happening in your life, and give them directions or commands?
Yes, you can. What a power to have! Sometimes your life seems to be falling apart, or going madly off in all directions, and you have to take charge of your own soul. Let me give you four examples.
These trials, sicknesses and hindrances in your life - see how they depress and mess up your daily routines. You can't work, or poorly, you fret, and worry, and unexpected costs keep holding you back. It's time to tell our troubles - Listen, all "you things" shall turn out for my good and for God's glory. You don't scare me any more! I will deal with you, for you are stepping stones to my maturity."
Now I don't know what you've been through since your childhood, but chances are high that there are things in your past that embarrass you. Or, it is possible they are like an albatross, a huge white, but very dead bird hanging on your neck. Crazy, isn't it, how a thing from your past that you are the only individual in the world remembering it, can make you feel like all the world knows and despises you for it?
It's time to take yourself by the scruff of your neck, lift yourself up, and speak to your past, (or your recollection of it). Say, "Despite all I've been through, mercy and goodness have shown up time and again! You soul doesn't feel quite convinced? Start naming and writing down some of the really good and kind things that have happened to you in that same past."
There are some people who live in dread of what's to come, or might happen, or might not happen, or in a fantasy of what they wish would come. (I know, because I used to!)
Some live in the terror of war, and current events are full of wars and rumors of wars. The 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center isn't the only tragedy, nor will it be the last.
When our eyes are opened to the wrong in this constant state of fear, (or the other extreme, a dream world) we need to speak to our future and our view of it, and tell it this - no matter what the future holds, God loves me and will do good to me.
No matter what happens, good or bad, if our spirit clings to God with a child-like trust, an utter abandonment to the belief that He knows every iota of knowledge, and has all ultimate power in the universe, then we'll be as quiet as a cooing dove, or singing like a lark in the sky.
So Tell Your Troubles This--
1. These trials shall turn out for my salvation/good.
2. Despite my past, goodness and mercy followed me.
3. No matter what comes, God will give or turn it out for good.
4. Whatever happens, I'll trust God and not be afraid.
