Are They Dinosaurs or Dragons?

© Ruth Marlene Friesen

This current generation is fascinated with dinosaurs. Even children's books for pre-schoolers start out, "Dinosaurs lived six million years ago...." There are stuffed toys and TV shows about Barney the Dino, and so on. Many children can tell you a dozen or more long complicated names for dinosaur species and think of them as cute and fun.

A couple of questions for you. Did dinosaurs really exist? If so, how long ago was that?

Kent Hovind, a Biblical Creation-Science expert says they did exist. God created them along with the animals before Adam and Eve, and they were even preserved on Noah's ark and survived plentifully on the earth for a long time after. However, in the Bible they are generally called dragons, or serpents, sometimes as behemoth and leviathan. (Explore https://DrDino.com for more).

God Himself gives a vivid description of the behemoth (the land dragon) in Job 40:15-19, and the leviathan (the sea dragon) in Job 41:1-10.

Hovind gives detailed examples of these creatures who live in dense and deep swamps or lakes in this century and decade. Namely some in the Congo where the Pygmies live, and in Scotland, there's the Loch Ness monster, and a few others.

In the same way that pioneers got rid of grizzly bears, Hovind says, to make an area safe for settlers, various people heroically got rid of the dragons (or dinosaurs, if you like), to make civilized areas safer for the general populace.

So yes, they existed, not six million years before us, but alongside mankind. The Bible is not silent on them. But I'll send you to Kent Hovind's site and videos, to learn more of those details.

I decided to look up dragons and serpents in the Bible. If you know me, you know that I like to look for God's perspective on things. He provides practical and spiritual applications for us in everything.

The Hebrew word "tan" is translated in the King James Version of the Bible as dragon, serpent, or leviathan (Isaiah 27:3).

The Revised Standard translates dragons as jackals. The Hebrew word "tannin" refers to any great monster of land or sea, usually a serpent or reptile. In the New Testament it is applied metaphorically in Revelation to Satan, (Rev. 12:3)

Reading through a list of Scriptures with these words, I notice that God often uses the dragon, or "Serpent" as terms to refer to, or address Satan. Suddenly the word pictures are clearer. The great dragon has been fought against, and will be overcome! These ferocious and dangerous animals were created to be a vivid illustration of the Evil One. As a warning to us!

However this generation has believed a clever ploy to present evil, both the symbolic and the real, as cute and winsome. Mostly they mourn the presumed passing of dinosaurs with toy images, sweet children's books, and at fun inter-active museums.

Whoa! Did your eyes just fly open too?

It was a devious but syrupy-talking serpent that led Eve astray, and the Ol' Dragon is still up to such tricks with our modern Evies and Addies.

Which brings me to this conclusion; who is going to write new articles and stories to warn the boys and girls, and everyone else, about this true enemy of our souls? The Hovind family has started, but more of us ought to jump on this bandwagon.

Even a light study of prophecy (Revelation 12- and on) tells us that we'll be dealing with the ugly side of the worst spiritual dragon yet. Those not alert and resistant will get swallowed up!

We need good dragon-slayers again - for the spiritual realm. Got your sword sharp? You may well need it.
