Through a Super-Busy Week

Do you ever feel like you are more busy than usual - and then things start happening that make you still MORE busy? That is the theme of my life these days.

I thought I was super busy at the beginning of last week, what with getting used to the older system I had installed, and the fine-tuning involved as I had to install programs that were not included automatically. The emails were not working right...etc. But when things began to go wrong... I decided to upgrade to the next higher version of LEAP. That went well, but it meant re-doing some of the fine-tuning and setting up each email once more.

I began to get homesick for my usual business hours agenda, but . . . .the weather was perfect, and the weeds coming up in the garden, so I made time after dishes, and before I started my evening's work on the computer to rake the front yard, sweeping the shingle-covered path beside the house on the west side. That took two early evenings.

On Saturday morning I continued with the cemented patio areas behind my house.

At 1 pm I was watching the funeral of a 90-year old missionary father of several of my friends, and then snitched time for a nap before I tried to catch up with my delayed housework, and some checking some sites' STATS.

Just before midnight I finished checking stats for one client site, and was about to login to their blog to see if it was all okay, when suddenly I could not login there. I tried some other URLS and everywhere I was getting "Sorry this site cannot be reached" error messages.

I checked my emails and they were suddenly all marked (Offline).

Oh-boy! The server has crashed again! My heart sank. This has happened 2 -3 times in the last 2-3 months, and a support agent at Hostgator had said that it was because all the websites in my care/account (including clients') were on a legacy server. (Meaning it was OLD). She suggested that I ask for a new one when I went to renew my contract in early June).

I certainly intended to do that, but my credit card was being changed to a new one and I didn't have that one yet. So I hoped this old Legacy server would hold on for another 2-3 weeks. But I knew that if I contacted Hostgator support right then, after midnight, I likely would not get to bed for another hour or two. So... I just shut everything down and went to bed.

I knew I had to be out of the house shortly after 8 to be in time for our ESL class, and one of my students had invited me to lunch. So it would easily be mid-afternoon before I could deal with the server issue.

When I did I quickly unloaded some groceries and headed to the computer. I could not access the Hostgator site - even, but I got their phone number from Google, and connected by phone.

Praise God, the agent that came on was very gracious, and knew exactly what to do, and when I asked about getting a new server right away, have them do the migration, and if I could pay up for my contract too. He made that all possible in a few minutes! The migration took about 30 minutes, but then I began to get emails telling me so. Also from clients in the USA & UK anxious to know if I was aware that their sites were done. I was able to reassure them that it was all taken care of now! In fact, I got over $600 off of my contract fee.

So I feel like the Lord gave me a nice, victorious HIGH after that super-busy week. Yesterday was a nice start with a more normal business agenda, and about an hour towards cleaning up the the garden to get ready for the man with the rotortiller.

Maybe we can start sowing this next Saturday!

Cleaning a Window Box Air-Conditioner

Perhaps you - like me - leave your window box A/C in the window all through winter. (In my case because I can no longer lift it and lug it downstairs for winter storage).

However, the first time you turn it on in spring, you may find brittle bits of leaves, and other debris, or even some fuzzy dust bunnies blowing up through the fins of the grate.

I've puzzled over mine for several weeks. This morning I had an idea; I put some vinegar in an empty vitamin bottle, and got an old toothbrush, and tried to clean it that way. But the brush was a bit too big.

I loosely wrapped a soft fibre cloth over a paper nail file. That works! I did a quick once over, but I plan to do it again more slowly and thoroughly.
