What's New: My Girl has Graduated

I've got some good news! I have been supporting a girl in Uganda for the last 6 years. I got word this week that A... had graduated from University Level A, and is now looking for a good job. (Wow, and I only finished grade 12!)

I was informed that I can send her one more letter, and a birthday card & gift (for Dec.15th) which Compassion will mail for me. Normally, we're asked to send extra cash.

So I've been busy preparing my little package and want to take it to the post office this afternoon to send off.

I was warned about how not to communicate with her as there are bad characters who may try to step in and pretend to be my girl and beg for money, so I need to be on my guard.

I do hope I can continue my friendship with A.... but I certainly don't want to attract "advantage-takers" to get between us.

Compassion is a great mission that focuses on finding people to support a child or two and see them through to graduation. Our main involvement is to pray and to write letters of encouragement - which Compassion forwards to the Compassion office in that country; they print out our letter to give to the child. Apparently they get very excited to hear from their sponsor.

I admit that I'm not the great PenPal letter-writer I used to be. When I first moved back from London, Ontario, to my parents' home to look after them, I missed my friends so much that I was writing literally batches of letters every month.

Because I've been so involved in my online business efforts and projects I have not been as faithful to write 'my girl' in Uganda every month. It is not a huge favour to ask, but I've asked that Compassion just continue to draw my $59/month but use it wherever most needed. When I am earning more through the sales of my books from my websites, I will increase that amount.

<*> TIPS & SOLUTIONS: <*>

Make Time For A New Project/Commitment

If you are taking on a new project or commitment, and you simply can't see where to make space to do that work in your daily or weekly schedule - you would be wise to take time to pray and ask the Lord for help to see where to clear space in your life for this promised commitment.

Review your current daily, hourly agenda, then also your weekly schedule. What could you give up? What could be handed over to someone else, to free up YOUR time in some area?

Consider whether some time blocks have turned into time wasters instead of accomplishing what you meant to do there. Would anything terrible happen if you wiped that time-waster out of the agenda? Would that free up some time?

There may be a commitment that you could pass on to someone else who needs to learn to be a good steward(ess) of their time. If you are nearby in case they have questions, you might free up that block of time for your new project or a part of it.

Always weigh these decisions carefully because they can become trouble-spots if you didn't weigh every angle.

Watch for those projects that have run their course and you just haven't noticed that you don't have to do that one any more.

The secret: make these decisions with prayer and great care, and don't set them all in STONE
