Have you ever been the recipient of a supply of ready-made meals? All you need to do is take a container out of your fridge or freezer, and heat it in the oven or perhaps in a frying pan with just a bit of oil or water in the bottom, and in a few minutes your meal is ready to eat. I knew Joanne teaches a cooking class in the church kitchen - mostly for Chinese or other newcomers to Canada so they can learn to make good Canadian food. I assumed the students got to take all the food they prepared home to their families. When word got out that I had a fractured spine, and could hardly be on my feet more than a few minutes at a time, - one of the women called and asked if they could bring me some meals - which would just need to be heated up and then be ready to eat. When this couple came, I was on the phone, on a long distance call - but I got up and showed the couple where they could put this big cardboard box full of frozen meals on my table in the kitchen. When I was off the phone I went to the kitchen to slide them into the freezer compartment and the fridge shelves - and I counted 17 containers full of food! What a blessing! When I was about to prepare one and took the lid off of heavy tin foil tray, I found a chicken pot pie big enough for four meals for me! The label said to defrost in the fridge for a day before I put it into the oven to heat. Truly, I had 4 meals of each of such containers! (including lasagna roll- ups, etc.) This food has tided me through five weeks so far! I checked this morning, and found one more chicken-pot-pie left, and I've just had the very last super-sweet cinnamon bun for a break. I've started cooking for myself again. On Friday I cooked a large pot of summa borscht, which includes smoked sausage, greens from my garden, diced potatoes and some sour cream. (This borscht is my childhood favourite!) I've already had at least 3 bowels full, and there are about 3 bowels full left in the fridge. What a feast theses continuing meals have been for me! I am so grateful to those dear woman who did so much cooking and baking! Apparently this happens often when they hear someone is laid up at home.
This time I'm asking you for a tip. What is the best way to transfer funds abroad?
I have supported a poor pastor family in Pakistan for the past 15 years - always through MoneyGram, but when I tried to use it last week, they suddenly closed my account.
I've been trying to find another method to transfer funds to them, for I know they can't feed their four children and the two they took in when their mother died without my help. Which is only $100/month as a rule. Sister Shazia and I have become good penpals. I feel I know them quite well, and feel badly that I am not able to send the funds I have ready.
If you have no suggestions, would YOU join me in praying that this need will be met very soon?
Thank you.
