My Friends are my RoseBouquet

A Raven’s Food Drop

I was about to curl up in my recliner for a nap shortly after 12 when both the doorbell and the phone rang at the same. For a few seconds I was torn; which was most important to answer first?

I couldn't see anyone at the door through my window, so I turned to the phone behind my desk. (A spam call. Bah!)

As I glanced out the window, a man at a car across the street turned to look my direction. (Had he dropped off a parcel?)

But by the time I got the screen door open he was gone. Something was blocking the door; I could only open it a a couple of inches. I pushed on it, and looked around the door.

There was a big brown bag! I managed to pick it up, though it was heavy.

There was no name-tag, receipt, or anything like that on it. I opened the bag and there was nothing like that there either. But inside were boxes of food that were still hot!

I looked at the outside of the bag again. Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters. I had never heard of such a restaurant. So I took another peek inside. A smaller box was at the top filled with roasted potato wedges. Underneath was a bigger box with jumbo-sized pieces of chicken! Also, a cup of gravy, and a cup of coleslaw. Wow!

Well. I better report this. I checked online and there was such a restaurant over on Preston. I called them and explained that a man had delivered this big bag of food that I had NOT ordered.

A man with a heavy accent asked someone else a question, then he told me to call Skip-the-Dishes and they did their deliveries for them.

Their website didn't offer a phone number but had a chat box. So I started typing, explaining that I'd have this strange bag of food delivered - which I had NOT ordered.

The woman who responded asked if there was any receipt attached with an order number and name? I responded that no, there were no such information on the outside or the inside.

"Then we can't trace it," she wrote. "You may as well enjoy it."

I dug in and enjoyed one big piece of chicken and 3 taters. But then my stomach - stretched to it's max - started to complain.

The rest went into my fridge. At supper I allowed myself to do the same except this was a cold supper.

Sunday afternoon when I got home from church I had another cold lunch.., but didn't finish it, until supper.

It dawned on me that I'd already had 4 meals out of that Raven's delivery, and my digestive system needed a break. So I had other food yesterday, but had to deal with a cross-eyed headache most of the day.

I've decided to put the rest away in the freezer and only take out a bit - just once or twice a week, and not close together.

I've always thought Eljiah just got a small piece of meat that the ravens could carry in their beak. Maybe they brought him huge bites and he had to cook over his fire first?

Have you ever had ravens bring you a food drop?
