My Friends are my RoseBouquet

I'm Looking for a Driver

Do you know of a strong young man available this next Saturday to drive a truck for me?

I better give you the background; I don't recall telling you about it so far.

Back in the 1990s when I was still caring for my parents, my sister Elsie worked in Nipawin, and took a test to see what kind of work she would be best at. Turns out she'd make a great Health Inspector.

But the training was only offered in Burnaby, BC, or in Toronto. Her husband had left, so she packed up her kids, and all she could get into her van, and moved out west.

She had just considered starting a home business to do accounting for others, and had a good carpenter build her a nice desk suite; a desk, credenza, and two small units that could be arranged in a semi-circle around her in her living room. She offered it to me. So Dad borrowed a truck and went to fetch it.

I had the use of it in our living room until after Dad died in 2007. Since I considered myself just the one entrusted to look after it, I did not allow it to be sold at the auction.

Friends from church brought it to this wee little house for me once I had possession of it. It is only 160 sq. feet, and the suite fills this largest room.

Last year, in April, Elsie phone from Kelowna where she has retired, and she mentioned that her daughter, Jalise wishes she had this suite in Edmonton.

I turned my head to look at it and said, "She can have it." Later I called Jalise to tell her to come and get it.

The pastor of our church and his brother had built a desk for me in my basement room before all this... and it has more drawer spaces, which I need for my files, whereas Elsie's has only the equivalent of 8-9 drawers.

My desk is in my basement collecting piles of clutter. With my metal filing cabinet I'd have 12-14 drawers, using much less space!

I've been ticking off the Saturdays when Jalise & her husband might show up to get the suite. Then just about 4 weeks ago my sister told me that they couldn't afford to come get it yet.

I made it my business to check into the costs if I paid for a U-Haul truck, and had someone drive it to their home in Edmonton.

I've got a truck lined up! Now I'm looking for a driver! [I KNOW I'm not the right one!] So...if you know of a young man free on Saturday and willing to drive the truck there, I've got a job for him.

Jalise and her husband Chris are tall, strong adults who can help unload it.

The truck needs to be delivered to a U-haul location in Edmonton, instead of bringing it back here.

There are buses that go once a day between Edmonton and Saskatoon, so we can get the driver home again.

If worst comes to worst, I could follow in my car and bring the driver back that way, [But a 3 hour drive to and from Moose Jaw exhausted me a few years ago. So I don't think I could handle 5-6 hours each way -to and from Edmonton. Unless I let the driver drive us back here.]

Please do call or email me if you have a suggestion - for a driver - or even a volunteer!

P.S. I know I've shrunk too much to look over the top of the steering wheel of a truck!! Plus, no experience!
