My Friends are my RoseBouquet

At My Place: Freak Accident Followup

No doubt you are wondering what has happened since last week regarding my freak accident. Well, I had that phone call from the SGI agent just before I finished the last RoseBouquet.

As soon as I finished posting that issue, and had a quick wee lunch, I called up Atomic Autobody where I usually get good work from the mechanics and as soon as the Manager heard my story, he suggested I bring my car in right away and they would look after it. They would also see that I got a ride home. (God bless 'em!)

Their Girl Friday in the office dropped me off at my door. I expected to hear from them by 5 pm. However, they did not call until late on Thursday afternoon.

Turns out my 2002 Buick is so old that parts are hard to come by. Mike, the manager told me he had been phoning all over and finally found the part they needed in Camrose, Alberta. If it arrived in time on Friday I should be able to have my car back by 5 pm. If not it should be Monday, for sure.

I know they are closed on Saturday & Sundays, but I was sure I'd get another call yesterday. None came. I can only conclude the part was not delivered as early as they hoped.

So now I'm back on pins & needles, waiting for that call!

On Friday evening Ike called to see what the score was. I told him about waiting for that part, and now I was wondering how I would get across the city to church on Sunday. He promptly offered to pick me up, but knowing he lives on the far south- east part of the city, and I'm west of downtown, I thought it would be too far out of his way. Ike said he would try to find me a ride.

Later he called to say he would pick me up, but another retired couple would give me a ride home.

At church various people came up to offer sympathy on the car accident, and after a while I realized that Ike had been busy spreading my situation to everyone who would stand still a few minutes to hear the "strange tale". Some even had suggestions as to where/how to find a good used smaller car.

Drizzle is forecast for our weather today (not happening yet), but if the call that the car is ready comes early enough, I plan to go get the car washed, and vacuumed, so it is ready to be considered for a trade-in, or for a private sale - with the proviso that I find another car before they take possession of this Black Beauty. (I don't like to depend on others for rides too long).
