When I send a Birthday card or letter, I usually start out with; "Birthday Blessings" and the name of the person I'm addressing.
Well, I had such a great day yesterday, tho' it sure had some twists and turns in it, that when I was counting up my blessings at bedtime, I came up with 10 of them.
I don't mean to brag, but it occurs to me that sharing these could bless you too, and will give glory to God, who worked all these things out for me.
1. The Lord, got me up early and moving through my routines so I could make my appointment to bring my car to Atomic Auto for checking and fixing so it will be road-worthy for my 3 day trip to Moose Jaw next week.
2. I waited there an hour for them to assess what needed to be done. The mechanic came up with two lists, one of things that needed to be done for sure, the sooner the better! Another that should be done, but could wait until after my trip. I walked home the 7 blocks. It was not as bad I had feared. I got to work on my devotional prayer time, expecting my new-to-me fridge to be delivered at noon as promised on Friday.
3. About 10:30 I got a phone call and my brother Ernie, his wife Dori and my sister Elsie, whom they were visiting in Kelowna, sang "Happy Birthday to me. In our excited 4-way conversation, where they told me about Joanne & Joel's wedding on Saturday, I was interrupted with a knock on the door. The fridge movers had arrived - Early!
4. So I had to hang up and scramble around to shove furniture out of the way, and move the kitchen table that would be in the way, to the middle of the kitchen. The men were soon walking the old fridge out the house, but were convinced that they had to take the front door off its hinges.
5. It gave me time to quickly clean the floor where the fridge had stood as I had never been able to move it. They waltzed in the newer Maytag fridge, which is not as wide as the old one, but is roomy inside. I had a couple of phone calls during that time, but by 12 noon, I had restocked the fridge with most of the stuff that I'd been trying to keep from getting moldy in a picnic cooler, and a big plastic bin, which both had ice packs from the old upright freezer, but which I had to change every day over the weekend.
6.The temperature controls are easy to see and adjust, so I think I got a good deal! Oh, and this model is on wheels, so I'll be able to move it to clean under it.
7. One call was about a friend who has waited over 13 months for an appointment with a specialist has one now for August. Wonderful!
8. I'd just had a bit of lunch when I got a call that my car was ready to be picked up. Exhausted and with the temperature now up to 32C outside. I said I'd be there in about an hour. Then I persuaded myself that if I curled up for a nap, I would have a hard time waking, so I hiked the 7 blocks in the heat to go pay over $700 for the repairs, and drive home again.
9. I was just settling comfortably into my recliner when the phone rang, and it was my favourite Uncle and Aunt from Alberta, with birthday greetings. We chatted a while, and suddenly I saw a head out on my front step. I was still on the phone while I opened the front and porch doors to my third-cousin, Gary, who has been my handyman for years. He had the day off and was wondering about that list of jobs I had for him the last time I'd phoned him.
10. I hung up from the phone call, and showed Gary around to about half a dozen jobs I had waiting for him. Bless his heart some of the things he could do in a jiffy, some of the things he put in the back of his jeep to fix at his place. (He lives in a camper, when he's not working at paving highways, etc.)
11. When we inspected my garden, I gave him two zucchini as he cooks for himself, also some cherry tomatoes. (Gary thinks my side gate needs a post put in straight, with a beam across the gate to keep it from sagging against the house. I know he will just show up with the lumber one day and fix it!)
12. After Gary left I settled into my recliner, setting my timer for just one hour. Then I felt better and got up to scare up a quick supper.
13. I was just sitting down to eat my warmed up chicken balls with a cheese gravy over the french fries, when my Aunt Jean called from Toronto. While she told me all the different stages of moving to a new apartment - which she really likes! Then selling the car she inherited from her friend Ruth who died in April,...I managed to eat my supper while listening.
14. When it was my turn to talk I was able to tell her about my rather ACTIVE yet interesting day, filled with blessings left and right!
15. After I got the day's dishes done I went out to pick my raspberries. I had skipped them both Saturday & Sunday, so I got a good litre full! Plus the hands full I popped into my mouth as I was washing them. A birthday dessert with no need to bake or make anything fancy. Besides the litre tub of raspberries in the freezer will make a nice dessert another day.
16. I got the garden watered in three sections, each getting 15 minutes' worth from the sprinkler, and then I buckled down to try to get some business work done on the diecast models site. But while researching a 1956 red Thunderbird convertible, I began to zone out, and decided that I must stop at midnight and get to bed, hoping for a more tame day today, but that I'd be able to get more hours in on my business agenda.
Wow, I thought I counted 10 Blessings last night; turns out I had at least 16 Birthday Blessings! None wrapped in fancy paper or decked out with bows, yet very special to me. And- I may have missed some.
The Lord blesses us daily - if we just recognize them!
