The summer has zipped by so fast that I almost feel as if I'm caught off guard that parts of the garden are ready for harvesting now.
On the other hand, the heat has been so intense of late, that I'm almost glad that I won't have to spend so long at weeding and watering after another month or so.
My raspberry crop is not as good as it has been in the past, which may be due to the heat, and that my garden hose doesn't reach that far. Also that the birds sip the juice out of the berries and leave the dry bits behind to dry out and be useless to me.
I try to pick every other day, but realized last night I had not picked since Friday, so it was high time!
I get about 1-2 cups worth at each picking, and when I've washed them I am popping them into my mouth before they make it to the freezer.
I harvested all the rhubarb last night, and cut down quite a lot of green onions last week, but there are more to go.
Another goal is to take more photos so that I can produce my annual photo garden tour to send to those who like that a lot.
There should be lots of pumpkins this fall, but I may only get one or two watermelon. They were too much in the shade and only 3-4 plants even came up.
Some flowers, like zinnias are very short and have a very small flower - about 1.5 in across. Last year the zinnias were often as wide across as the length of my hand! Now they look as if they're dying of thirst!
No forest fires here though, so I am grateful!
