I told you last week of my ESL students coming to help me sow my garden. I was a bit frustrated when I realized that I could not see where the rows where, as the soil had been raked every which way to even it out.
I had made myself a list of 12 more gardening projects I wanted to get done over the next couple of weeks.
So Saturday I fixed the soil/peat in the big pots on the steps to the back door, and sowed flowers there.
Then I headed to the shed, loosened up the soil around the base with a hoe, and pulled some weeds out, watered the soil and sowed a fresh batch of morning glories all around.
Last year I started that too late for the flowers to climb up the wire fencing Gary and I put around the shed. This summer I hope to see lots of pink morning glories hug the unpainted shed.
As I was coming back down the path from that job I suddenly spied 4 rows of tiny plants coming up on the east side garden.
When I slowed down to inspect the garden carefully on both sides yesterday I realized that there are a lot of tiny plants popping up out of the ground! I've hoed up the soil beside those rows so I can see where I may walk.
I'd also sown some dill behind the irises beginning to bloom on the west side.
So I felt great knowing that I'd already done three of my extra sowing projects. I got two more done last night after supper. Flowers along the east fence, and transplanted some chives from under the tree into the pink tub, and sowed flowers there too.
7 projects to go!
Have you ever been about to throw away a tube of toothpaste that didn't taste appealing any more? Then hesitated, in case it was a foolish waste?
That happened to me last night. Then I remembered that I had some old toothbrushes in the cabinet door close by. Why not use that old toothpaste as a cleaner on the sink around the taps?
In just minutes I had that area shinning and looking clean and sparkling.
If I look around, I think I'll find some other areas that can be cleaned this way. (It may cost less elbow grease as well).
