I was shopping in Bulk Barn and scooping up some Cocoa to put in a plastic bag, when I managed to get some of that brownish powder on my left jacket sleeve and on my purple canvas purse.
Now, I got that purse as a gift from my sister Elsie who has excellent taste in "GOOD QUALITY" stuff. It had a tag that said this purse was almost impossible for a thief to snatch away from you because it was made of such strong, sturdy material (canvas, I think). The shoulder strap has extra strong buckles which can NOT be undone. It also has many pockets and compartments, which I like. (I don't recall exactly, but I think I got it in about 2008, and it has been my favourite purse ever since.)
Of late it had begun to show some spots, and grungy areas where my hand went most often, so I'd wondered if I'd have to have it dry-cleaned. I meant to ask Elsie sometime, but when we were on the phone I always forgot.
This cocoa crisis got me to check online if there were some good ways to do the cleaning job at home - myself.
Sure enough! I found a number of videos that show how to clean up canvas bags or wallets, etc. I tried it last night, and hung it up to dry downstairs in front of the big square fan. This morning I went to look and it's looking fairly new!
Maybe I should do this annually now, eh?
Money-saving tips found in a magazine:
Eating less meat and more vegetables and fruits cuts your grocery bill.
Eating rice three times a week instead of potatoes could save you $198/year.
Do a gasket check on your fridge to see if it is losing cool air; put a paper cash bill in the door, half-in-half-out. If it pulls out easily, you should replace your gasket, and maybe the rubber border in the door and frame.
The fridge door is the warmest part of the fridge, so don't put your dairy products there. They will go sour more quickly.
The lowest shelves in the fridge are best for meat to keep cool.
If you designate one shelf in the fridge for leftovers. That will tell you when your cooking is getting way ahead of eating. Send some to the freezer, or make meals of the left-overs first for a few days to get caught up.
