A Spring Optimist!

Yes, I've had the glasses I'm wearing, the ones on my face at the moment, since 2017 after my cataract surgeries. So they are more than seven years old.

(I've had glasses since I was 10, so I don't feel dressed until my glasses are riding on my nose.)

The only complaint I have is that it's been getting harder to read fine print. I keep magnifying glasses in every room; the kitchen, the bathroom, bedroom, etc., so when I can't clearly make out smaller print I quickly snatch up the handle of a magnifier to check it out.

I was told that it is not possible to have a cataract surgery done all over again, so I went to see my optometrist last week, had my eyes checked, and got a new prescription.

I also sat down with a cheerful young woman to try on about a dozen frames and finally picked one. I was told I'd get a call in about two weeks when they were ready for me to pick up.

Guess what! I got that call this morning! So I've promised to pick them up this afternoon. I mentioned the two week wait. The woman on the phone said, "Well, sometimes it goes faster."

Don't Pluck Your Lips

If you have chapped lips and the skin starts to dry up and peel off in short, uncomfortable curls, you know that is not a joke.

There are times I find myself unconsciously reaching up my fingers to pluck and pull away those dried curls of skin. Unfortunately, it is often still sort'a attached to soft lip skin, so you end up pulling off skin that still has nerves in it that are quite lively; they complain sharply!

I was frustrated the other morning as I settled down at my computer with this dried lips problem. I decided to do a bit of research online.

Turns out this is quite a common problem, most often caused by not drinking enough water or healthy fluids. Certain oils like coconut oil are especially good for hydrating one's lips.

It had happened that I'd just bought a can of coconut milk the day before, as I like that flavour. I decided to mix it with some juice so it would last longer, and I've been taking about half a glass a day. Delicious, and I've almost licked the dry lip skin problem; Don't Pluck Your Lips now.

There are a number of other things that will help such as petroleum gelly, and drinking more water. So don't resign yourself to pick at those dry bits of skin. Take time to find your favourite cure, and make it a daily habit.
