My Friends are my RoseBouquet

Waiting for the Appliance Repair Man

First I should report that I'm almost caught up on the extra jobs that absorbed me in recent weeks. Last night I finished all I can do for the one client who is very easy to please. I need some words translated, and how to create the Spanish accent marks for the internet, then I can finish that job in mere minutes.

On Saturday my old washing machine in the basement acted up. Somehow it could not spin out all the water from my one weekly load. When I tried to take the items out to hang on the old dryer rack of Mom's, each piece was sopping wet!

I threw most of them back into the washing machine and ran the last cycle over again. Whoa! Still sopping wet!

I don't have a machine dryer, so I hung them on the rack with the wooden rods, turned on the big fan, and had to re-set it again for the night at the end of the day.

Later in the evening I took up only what was dry and left the rest with the fan blowing hard all through the night.

Checking online I see an old washing machine that is more than 10-15 years old is hardly worth fixing. I've lived here 17 years now, and that washing machine was in the basement when I took possession of this house. I don't know how long before 2007 it was in use in the basement.

(In fact, according to city hall records, this house was built in 1926; so next year it will be 100 years old!)

Yesterday I called Mike's Appliances and asked to have their mechanic come and see if this machine can be fixed. I had a nice chat with Mike, but so far his Repair man has not arrived yet.

I am resigned to the fact that if it can't be fixed, I may have to go shopping for a working washing machine. It doesn't have to be brand new.

In fact, I read online that the top-loaders often last much longer than the front loading washing machines, so I'll be content with a top-loader.

Going to a laundromat just doesn't appeal to me.

What's more, we are just coming out of a very deep COLD spell. On Sunday it was -32C with a wind-chill factor making it feel like -45C. It took some determination and pulling out my old long suede coat with a big hood, so I could persuade myself to go to church.

Today it is to go up to single digit temps. My outdoor thermometer is slipping back and forth between -1 and +1 right now! There is some wind, but it's also sunny.
