Voting in Civic Elections

Tomorrow is our Civic Election day all across Saskatchewan. Every city, small town, etc. has a day for voting for our local mayors, council men/women, etc. This happens regularly every four years. The poll booths are usually set up in a school gym.

We just had a provincial election in October, and I noticed they were renting large rooms in churches for their polling booths.

Rumours abound that we may have a federal election soon too. (So far PM Trudeau is hanging on to his role as Prime Minister.)

If you live in a different county, you may have different rules and regulations for such elections. Whether you know about them or not depends on how much you care.

As for me, I usually know what is going on politically because I listen to the radio in the morning when I get up and dressed. Then, again when I'm doing the day's dishes after supper. I do try to listen carefully for what each candidate stands for, but being of a conservative bent, I make my decisions quietly and without a lot of fan-fare, or big discussions.

However, I'm not a flag-carrying fan. Nor do I attend their ralleys.

Mainly, I listen for their true convictions and what is most important to them. Do they sound believable, trustworthy? Or might they waffle and change their mind every so many days?

What is your criteria for whom to vote for?

Or, do you dump them all into a disgust bucket and refuse to vote at all?

One thing that hits my conscience today is that I have not prayed for these people enough. Maybe I don't deserve the kind of leaders I hope we will get elected?

I've had some of the potential counsellors come to my door. One was a Christian woman who used to attend my church. I invited her in, and we chatted for a while. This is her first effort at being elected, but I think she has a good head on her shoulders. I wish her well.

One man was a smooth talker. I wondered if he wasn't a bit too smooth. Some just left a lot of bragging literature in my mailbox.

Hmm??? Maybe these are really experienced at this, eh? They know how to speed up their campaigning.
