You may recall that last week I was explaining about a choice to make regarding the server on which my websites and those of my clients are located.
I described the two options; one was to have the current serve upgraded, but this would mean the sites would be off-line or disappear for 3-5 days. The hosting service was offering that for free but not recommending it.
The second option was to have all the sites migrated to another server that is already upgraded. That can be accomplished in very short order. Perhaps mere moments for the small websites. But this option would cost just about $3000 Cdn for the whole job.
I felt that I should contact my clients and give them a chance to indicate what they would prefer. If it was just me, being used to living on a short shoe-string budget, I might grit my teeth and go the free way. But this was going to affect others; it was only fair to let them know, and have a say.
Well, I'm happy to report that a number of client have already sent some funds to help out. One just arrived (or the notice did) minutes ago. One client wrote, (Go for free.) The last two I had not heard from yet, but just one one email from a client in Africa, who has been busy with funerals, and promise to reply once he had fully read my letter.
On top of that I got a letter by mail on Friday, in which our provincial government informed me that they had learned from my income tax return last year that my income level was quite low, so they are adding $360 to my OAS each month starting in July. (I laughed aloud at that; without applying, God prompted them to increase my monthly income. Wow!)
We are going for the Better Choice; Migration of our sites! I had meant to ask for it before I wrote this issue, but noticing the time, I decided to write this first, then go to Hostgator to ask them to go ahead.
I hope there will be no hickups. The site named after my novel ruthes-secretroses.com has over 1000 pages plus ebooks to download, so it might transfer slower than the ones that are less than 30 pages for instance.
But if you run into anything strange, I suggest you just pause a few moments and then refresh your browser. Same thing with emails; if your email to me bounces back, just wait a few moments, and try again. I'll do the same with my out-going emails.
Mainly I would ask that YOU rejoice with me at God's faithfulness in providing for this service. I may not be able to cover the whole bill at once, but if part of it stays on my credit card until next month, that should be okay.
At any rate, none of the 13 websites are going to be disappearing now! For sure not for days, or even hours!
