The issue I sent out yesterday gave a hint at the 7 days of TRIAL in the last 10 paragraphs of the first article of last Tuesday's issue - BUT, which I could not send out. Why?
Well, it turned out that all the sites in my care and all the domain emails related to them were offline and inaccessible. as of last week, Monday. Yes, totally.
The back-n-forths I had with the Support Dept at Hostgator, my hosting service, and with Support at ResellerClub, with whom I have a control panel for the registrations of all the domains in my care were so often and some so complicated, I cannot even recall them in the right order now. So I'll save you that back-and-forth struggle.
At one stage I was informed it was an IP address problem. My settings had somehow reverted back to the old IP address of the server I'd had for 3 years. But I got a new one on May 15 and I KNOW the IP had been changed to that new one.
I suspected a glitch happened a certain way, but that idea was poo poo-ed. The DNS just had to propagate around the world which could take 24-48 hours. Just wait.
I did a lot of praying and was back at these Support Depts quite often - sometimes more than once a day! By Saturday I calculated that I'd waited, not just 24-48 hours, but 168!
I didn't want to make myself a nuisance so I gave most of that day to weeding and reseeding some rows in the garden. Also watering the garden.
In the evening I looked in the Bible for some guidance, and sensed an answer in Proverbs 24, about seeking for answers. I had some more ideas, but they were dead ends.
Still, I took courage from the verse I'd highlighted in the past in Prov.23:18. "There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off."
Sunday morning in church, I was reassured of that too. So in the afternoon, I gathered courage, and telephoned to Hostgator's Support Dept in Texas. I pointed out that this was the 7th day all of the websites in my care (including some for clients) and all the domain emails had been DEAD - so to speak. Would someone please go to their big warehouse, find that server and see what had happened to it?
The man assured me that it was just a matter of getting the Private name servers set up right. I told him I had done that already 3 times, according to instructions, but he said it had to be done by the Registrar company, I should go to them.
So I did, hoping it was not a runaround. There I had to use their Help Chat. (I believe they are located in India). The man that answered, asked if I meant the "Child Name servers." I answered that if that was the same thing as "Private Name servers, then yes. He assured me they were.
Then he asked for my password to my control panel and he did it for me. In a few minutes he was back, and assured me that this would resolve and clear everything up in 2-3 hours.
I planned to go at 6pm for our church's Annual Business meeting. At 15 min. to 6 pm I decided to try reaching my business site's cpanel, Voila! I got in! Before even the 2 hours were up!
So I logged out and drove off to church. I got back at 8pm and I tried all the rest, and yes, they were now back online! WOW! Hallelujah! At long last! All for the right terminology!
Yesterday, I was still dealing with a backlog of emails - (with more to do yet), but WHEW! I hope to get back to my business routines again soon. Maybe even today!
day and feel a breeze cooling me off. Saturday I discoveredI rejoice that I could go out to pull weeds in my garden each that one side had big gaps where nothing came up that was sown, so I also re-seeded 10 rows. Thus, it wasn't a wasted week.
