You may be one of those people (very common now), who do all their internet and techie stuff on a cell/mobile phone. Is it true that you never really deal with serious tech problems? I wish you a merry life!
On the other hand, I'm more experienced in desktops and the occasional laptop, and when they are working they are great. When they get fractious and annoying they can make me quite frustrated.
I've referred to my computer issues over the past 3 weeks, and they've only become more frustrating. I decided on the weekend that I should install a new system, (I'd heard good things about Debian), but on the same hard drive as my current system so I could still come back when I needed to do something in my old way.
However, Debian refused to install. I tried many things, even hoping to pre-format the 500 GB space where I wanted to put it. Nothing worked. By early evening I was discouraged enough to pray about it.
A few minutes later the idea came to me that Tumbleweed, a newer, constantly being updated system from the same source as my LEAP OpenSuse 15.5, which I had installed on Tom's old computer for a trial, seemed to be working out well. Maybe I should install that instead of Debian.
Sure enough, by about 10 pm I had that installed, and was pleased to see my favourite programs were also there, and seemed to be more updated. I adjusted my wallpaper and a number of other settings to my favourites, but soon it was midnight and time to call it a night.
This morning it occurred to me to go to my site where I have the DadaMail system installed, and check in the database to see if I might find and recognize the password, as I have not been able to login to send out the RoseBouquet for the past few weeks because it would not recognize my password.
Tumbleweed does not recognize my network settings yet, so I had to switch back to LEAP and and get it from here. DadaMail did not recognize that password, but suddenly offered to send a link to my email to reset it. At last I was able to do that!
My sister called from Ontario just as I was about to start here, so I'm still writing... but I hope to have this wrapped up soon and then this afternoon I can start setting up the network connections, and my emails in KMail. (That can take 2 days!) But that will save me the more-time-consuming effort to visit each site online, via the cpanel, then visit, check and answer emails at each address separately. (It all works so much faster in KMail!)
I had backed up all my files to an external drive, and I copied most of them to the new system last night. I should be able to finish that soon.
So my spirits are lifting as I see that a number of my issues on my desktop are clearing up. In another day or two I may, in fact, be able to get back my business hours, and make good progress on three fronts!
