There was a chilly wind yesterday, and since the forecast had been for snow flurries, I gave up my morning schedule to go out to rake the last of the leaves behind the house and in some corners of the garden.
Somehow in my optimism I had convinced myself it would take only one big jumbo garbage bag to finish the job. Hah! I had to go in after half an hour to warm up and find Dad's big leather gloves.
First I'd grabbed one smaller bag by mistake, and filled it, then ended up filling two more of the big jumbo bags. But as I went to rake together the clumps of leaves in the garden, I got 3 or 4 more piles ready.
But my back was seriously complaining, so I gave up and went in to have a quick lunch of open tuna and cheese sandwiches warmed for a few minutes in the oven. Then I curled up for a nap that took me all afternoon.
No snows last night, but this morning everything is covered in snow! The sun is shining so I think this first snowfall will be melted away in another day or two, so I still believe I can get all the leaves bagged, and the bags parked around my hollyhocks to help them survive the winter.
Then I just need to put away the gardening tools, and bring out the snow shovels, to be ready for winter.
My back was feeling so heavy and tired that I checked online to see whether physiotherapy (exercises) might help strengthen my muscles. It appears that is a real possibility. So I'll check it out further.
At bedtime I took a minute to hold up a small framed mirror and looked over my shoulder, which faced some mirror tiles on my bedroom cabinet doors, to get a good look at my dowager's hump.
Gasp! It is much larger than I realized! No wonder it feels like like a heavy backpack full of rocks! It explains why my pants are about two inches too long! I've lost more height this last month.
