What are You Worth?

(by/from - TAILEND End in the "Web Evangelism Bulletin")

The seminar speaker held up a high-value currency note. In a room of 200 people he asked, "Who would like this note?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give one of you this note but first let me do this." He proceeded to crumple it up.

He asked again, 'Who wants it now?' Still hands went up. 'Well, what if I do this?' He dropped it to the ground and stamped on it and generally got it very grubby indeed. But still people wanted it.

"My friends," he said, "you have learned an important lesson today. No matter what I did, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value, it was still worth the same."

How often have you been dropped, ground down, beaten up, made bad decisions, done wrong things, been mistreated, made to feel worthless? But no matter what happens to you or what you do, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or just well-creased, you are priceless.

Amen!!

Saving Inspirational Articles & Quotes

Do you save inspirational articles, stories and quotes... then forget where you put them? It happens to many of us. A shoebox or drawer fills up with clippings, but we rarely go through them and read them over. Some would make great gifts of encouragement to family members or friends, but since we forget we have them, they never move on.

My beloved Gr'ma (who was 10 when her parents had twins, and she was assigned to hem diapers for them), used to cut items from newspapers about multiple births. In her old age, with dementia taking over her mind, I had taken her to my doctor who had her admitted to a Geratric Ward at the University hospital, where they sought to determine her exact needs, and to find non-drug solutions.

The staff asked me if Gr'ma had any hobbies. (She had not known what that English word meant). I thought for a moment and then lit up. "Gr'ma has long collected clippings about multiple births, twins, triplets, quadruplets, and so on." In fact, there were as many as 7 and 8 births at once.

The staff person asked if I could bring her collection in. Then she could show it off and explain it when they had their group discussion time. Okay. I agreed.

That evening I went through Gr'ma's shoebox of clippings, and finding an almost empty photo album with magnetic pages and celophane over-lays, I arranged them on the pages, and where I found slips of paper on which she had written in German, about news of multiple births that she heard about on the radio. I typed those up in English, and arranged them beneath Gr'ma's slips.

Gr'ma's sharing of her hobby was such a hit, that when I visited her the day after, she was still aglow with all the praise she had received.

This taught me to save articles that impressed me too - but on many other topics. Then when I got depresed over my drawer full of folders with articles, I remembered this story, and decided to find a way to save them in a more organized way.

I'd just begun to use a computer a few years before this time, and suddenly I had an inspired idea! I would save them on my computer and file them into topical categories. Eventually I made an index page for each category, listing the articles inside.

Today it occurs to me that I have never shared this idea with others. Not everyone saves clippings, but if YOU do, it is worthwhile to put them on your computer and organize them.

In fact, my next idea is to set them up as ebooks and share them that way, for those who don't think their keyboarding skills are up to this. Mind you, that still doesn't get your saved articles out where others may enjoy them too. Maybe you can come up with a unique idea of your own!.

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
