Victory Over the Shopping Cart

Okay, it is not fully functional yet, but that problem I had last Monday night with the 3rd step of the installation as been something I've grappled with almost daily since last Monday.

I have consulted the Support Dept at OpenCart, (by email), but they had not replied with a solution yet. I also went to my hosting service several times, where they have very polite and thoughtful agents at the Chat Help lines. I explained all the different ways I'd tried to find the hostname path, and they looked things up and consulted with more experienced agents, but in the end I still could not get past that error message about the hostname. (I'll spare you all the nitty-gritty details).

But last night the agent offered to do a fresh installation for me. I had already done a second one, with no better results. But I gave the agent some time, then I went to see how it had gone.

There is always a time-stamp on files in a website. This was about 11 pm and I had done that re-installation at 8:04 pm. That was the time stamp on the files I was looking at, so I guessed that the agent had not over-written them in a fresh installation. I began to wonder if nothing had happened yet.

Then I spotted the link for logging in to the administrative panel of the shopping cart. I tried it with the username and password I had given it earlier, and voila! I got in. There was my dashboard! Now I could work at arranging the settings and by switching back and forth to some training videos on their site, I got going. I was finished with the first section about midnight, so I decided that was a good place to stop until my next session!

So, even if the agent didn't do anything to solve the problem, I know now not to worry about error messages, if I can find a way to go on to the next step, maybe by a direct URL address. That alone I see as a helpful wee miracle from the LORD. He does care about the details in our lives. (Put that in your mouth and chew it!)

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
