Planning a Garden-Viewing Party

I've had my weekend holiday and enough adventures to last me a while, so now I'm eager to get back to my business projects and my gardening efforts. Weeding is first on the agenda there!

But I see that my hollyhocks have a flock of rosy pink blossoms up and down the stems! I think my raspberries are ripe - though I haven't taken time to run out there and do a closer inspection. Other things may be ripe enough soon to bear fruit - or veggies, and more and more flowers.

Since I've been telling various friends that the best time to see my garden is about the end of July or early August, so I'm going to watch for the best time to announce a Garden-viewing day and invite lots of friends to a come n' go party where they can come see these flowers and veggies in person, and if it should happen that there are any extras on the vines, I'll be happy to give some away too. The watermelon and pumpkins may not be ready for a few more weeks however. So you are welcome to make a return visit then. :)

Naturally, I will have some snacking food, or desserts on hand too.

(Oh, you should have tasted the triffle we had at the anniversary event on Saturday! I was given a small container to take home. It was packed in a ziploc bag with a bag of ice. Going through the screening process yesterday, the 3rd man who went through my stuff examined it, put it through a machine, and brought it back with a proposition for me. I could have the dessert back if he could have the ice. Of course, I said "Sure.")

Marking Prices & Dates on Frequently Purchased Items

Among the many things my new-sister-in-law, Dori, and I talked about was about supplements that we take on a daily basis. I mentioned that I use a marker to write the price I just paid when I open a new bottle of any supplement, and also the date I start using from that bottle.

I also record this on a chart on the fridge.

This way I can keep a running tab on how much I'm spending for any one kind of supplement (and it is also easier to remember that last price when I spot a better price in another brand). If the numbers are hard to see or write on the lid, I also write them on the bottom of the bottle.

But for a monthly or an annual summary of how much my supplements are costing me, the jotting them down on a chart with a column for each month of the year helps me to see how much I need to budget for these expenses the following year.

Dori really liked this idea and it occurs to me that you might also. Unless you have a better plan. If so... please share it!

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
