My Nephew's Accidental Death

I received word last week from my brother Ernie that his son, (46), who lived and worked in BC, and has a wife and three kids, was suddenly killed in a motorcycle accident last Thursday.

I just called Ernie again and he now had more details about the accident. (I had assumed he was travelling alone). He was riding his big motorcyle with three friends who traveled together as a four-some at least once or twice a year. They had their own routines of traveling in pairs, with the second pair not far behind the first. They used bluetooth headsets inside their helmets to keep in touch with each other. The guy at the front heard Trevor make a sudden exclaimation at the back. This friend said to the others immediately, "Trev's down! Turn around!"

There are signs along that road to watch for falling rocks. The other 3 had not encountered any, but when they reached Trevor sprawled on sharp rocks beside the road, they figured he must have hit or been hit by a rock, and spun out. The back of his helmet was gashed up, and when the ambulance arrived he was pronounced dead.

The police have insisted on an autopsy in Penticton, but that is to take until the end of this week. His wife has not announced any funeral plans yet, but I'm assuming that she can't make any definitive plans until his body is brought back to Surrey.

I have messaged her privately, and she has answered, but if she is not saying anything publically yet, I don't want to get in the way. That is why this is a rather sketchy report. I think there will be more news next week.

Ernie has assured me that they were attending a good church that has excellent technical skills so he is pretty sure that the funeral will be live-streamed. Which means I can attend it from here.

How to Read a Large Document
on a Smart Phone

My good friend has sent me another very helpful tip. (Remember, I was concerned last week about how people with only a cell/smart phone would be able to read my "End of Summer" letter which I had prepared on legal sheets, with lots of photos. Six pages full, and saved as a PDF file.

When you drag down from the top of your phone, there should appear a lock icon. Click on it to unlock your phone's orientation. That allows you to turn your phone sideways. (Some allow you to do so without clicking on anything).

You can now read the PDF letter from left to right without a problem. Or if the font is too small, you can enlarge it with that quick spreading motion with your fingers. Although then, you may have to softly slide your finger left and right to read the whole lines, and flick the screen upward to have the next few lines appear.

If you need to change orientation when finished - back to the upright format, do that and lock your screen so it won't flip back and forth when you don't want it to.

Now, if someone would tell me how to stop all notifications for good on my cell phone, so I can use it as a camera. It's crazy how those notifications fill the screen - just when I'm about to take a photo. Or a video! Grr-rr-r!

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
