Well, we didn't make any big effort to explore the garden once we had eaten well of the party-food.
But I took time this morning to take snapshots of the most interesting spots. You get to come along now
for this mid-summer garden tour.
Here are most of my party guests - who were willing to come on short notice. Shirley is behind my camera.
These are four of my largest tomato plants, just trimmed back last night, and caged so that they don't lie down in the dirt.
Can you see those 3 tiny watermelons just started? And the bigger one hiding to the right?
Ah, there's a shy white pumpkin hiding in the shade! Do you see it too?
These are the Kaiser Kronen (Emperor's Crowns) lilies that I brought with me when I moved here from Hague. Only it seems that this
year they are not forming crowns as they usually do. Not all the lilies for each crown are blooming at the same time.
Only a few Zucchini plants came up but this one producing wonderfully. I can't keep up with eating them now. I may have to grate them and put them
into the freezer. Or - give them away when willing friends come to see them.
Here are just two of my best potted plants on the back steps. Out of about 8 or 9. They do get neglected some times.
Sometimes at a birthday or Christmas or other big event, you may get a number of gifts involving chocolates. (I saw this morning that I've gained 2-3 lbs since Saturday, and I think it is because I've been allowing myself two chocolates a time, somtimes twice a day.)
The best solution then, is to hide those chocolates in the freezer, preferrably. Back behind stuff that you don't move or take out often, so that you may - hopefully - forget where they are and you can discover them months on in the year. They will still be delightful treats, but the surprise factor will make them even more delicious!
