Learning to Set up an Online Shopping Cart

I get so used to mentioning my online website projects that I sort'a assume that you take note of these things and have a rough idea of my progress. Maybe not. No one ever mentions it - no feedback about it. :)

However, since that fills my mind and days, it is what is uppermost in my mind, and I'm eager to let my friends know what I'm doing. (If you want a different topic, feel free to request it; I might just be able to please you too).

Well, the eCommerce site to sell my brother Tom's diecast models so that his daughters can get an inheritance is a regular project of mine, and keeps moving slowly ahead. I had started it on a blog site, but earlier this year, ran into problems and decided to remove everything there and start over on a static site. Slow progress... yes, for sure! But I have got about 215 items back up with 3-6 photos of each, and they are ready to sell.

But right now I am researching and learning how to set up an online shopping cart, so that customers can come and pay for several items at once. I know how to set up "Buy Buttons" for individual items, but it would be frustrating for customers to have to go through that procedure again and again, for each diecast model they want to buy. Hence, my quest to learn how to set up a shopping cart.

This is possible for free with Stripe a company that allows me to accept payment from customers. I usually work on this on Monday nights, and save the rest of my week for my other sites. Unfortunately, I was so tired last night that I couldn't hold my head up. I decided I needed a little nap break. But I woke from that at 11 pm, and came back to the computer only to find that though I seemed to be able to follow what I was learning, it was escaping from me almost as fast. So I'm going to have to make up that time on another night this week.

I was glad to learn that it is possible to learn to do this without having to learn a lot of coding for underneath the visable page on the website. But I do need to be wide awake to learn this skill. I do expect to use it a lot! There are not just the 200+ items ready to sell now, but my estimate is that there will be about 2000 in total.

Yes! This is a long-term project! Over a number of years!

But hey, once I learn how to do this, I will be able to apply this skill on my other sites too! It is NOT wasted learning time.

Oh, would you like to see the models that are now ready? Okay, go to diecastmodels-inheritance.com to actually see the models you need to click on "Shop," and then choose a category on that index page. The farm machinery index breaks up into various brands as more sub-categories or index pages.

I'm hoping to finish all the small farm machinery items this winter and then move onto a larger size of models in cars and trucks.

Rebate Shopping Portals

We all need to do a certain amount of shopping. If your shopping has been jjust local and off-line so far, you may be used to watching for flyer deals or coupons. However, a tremendous change has happened! More and more of our shopping is done online now. It is EASY to get Super Great deals for your online shopping. You just need to learn how to go about it. It costs nothing but some time.

You need to discover and learn to use Shopping Portals. You can join these websites for free, but you must remember to login to the portal site first, then click on the store you want to shop at to get the rebate benefit. There are more and more of these shopping portals all the time. It doesn't hurt to use a number of them. It depends on how well you can work these extra steps into your life.

Well, actually… sometimes I forget, and “kick” myself later.

Not all portals offer the same rebates. Often I take time to compare them first. Once I learn that one site offers only a 6% rebate at a certain store, but another portal promises 8%, then I know which portal I will use when heading to that store.

To save a bit of time, I do my research in Google first for the product I'm looking for, so I get a good sense of where the best prices are for the item I'm setting my heart on. Then, when I know from which online store I would like to buy it, I go check my Rebate portals to see which one offers the best rebate for that particular store. Only then do I make the purchase move.

Rebate Programs can earn you extra income recommending them to others. If they go shopping through the portal after signing up from your coded link, then YOU will get a small percentage of their shopping through that portal. In a few cases you can make quite a nice income if you have a good-sized downline there.

myWorld is the largest, global cashback portal in the world. (It used to be CashBackWorld). If you are ready to jump in right now – hey, it’s free, you know, - then here’s the sign-up link: myWorld

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
