Learning About Pinterest

You understand, don't you, that I work at my online business ventures all day and most evenings. So that is what I best know to talk about. I'll skip the technical troubles with the shopping cart I had to deal with last night; instead I'll tell what I'm learning about Pinterest. This has my ears and attention perked right up!

The last two Wednesday nights, the MLSP webinar at 6 pm has been with Kim Ward as the guest host, explaining how helpful she has found Pinterest to be for her business. I was interrupted by a long phone call during the first one, so I'm still waiting for a chance to see the replay. However, I am a memberof SBI as well, and so I've been going there on my "monetization nights" to take in the 10 day course on how to use Pinterest wisely.

I had joined once, years ago, out of curiousity, but don't remember my password, so I'll have to start over. But now I do understand how it works and how to take advantage of it for free advertising. So I'm now planning to get into this for each of the websites that are made responsive and ready for some promotion.

Kim showed us last week how one of her pages had got 93,000 visits just from Pinterest alone. All she had done was create an image about that page- with a hint that there was info there that the visitor would like. Then she posted that image "pin" on Pinterest on her "Board" which is a collection of her Pins.

People use Pinterest as a search engine for pictures of what they would like to buy or what they would like to make - (so crafts are big!) Some collect pictures of beatiful house improvements, etc., so they can dream and wish on and on. Stuff like that.

Well, I like to create images, so I could make batches of pins for each website, upload them to Pinterest and link them back to the pages I want visitors to come see and read. Just think, I could get my ebooks selling! Also Tom's Diecast models - once that site is more ready. 96,000 visitors each month for each pin - that's nothing to sneeze at!

So I'm curious. Have you joined Pinterest and started collecting pins that you like? What do you like best about it? How useful is it to you? Or is it just like window-shopping for your dreams and far-fetched ideas?

If You Should Lose Your Phone

Gasp! What can you do? Quick, before someone gets their hands on it and goes into it to see your personal stuff!

Well, I read an article in Consumer Reports about this, and can give you these brief tips;

1. Find or borrow another phone and call your own phone number. If it is nearby,, hopefully it will be loud enough so that you can hear it and follow the sound.

v2. If it turns out not be at home under a cushion, or whatever, report the loss to your service provider. They can lock the phone and make it unusable for anyone who has picked it up.

3. Get to a computer/laptop, etc. and start going to all your online accounts to change your password. Start with your email, financial accounts, and shopping sites, especially if they have your credit card on file!

4. Notify the police. They will launch an official recovery attempt, and that can also speed up your insurance claim - if you have insurance. You may also need proof of a police report to get your credit card to take off the fraudulent charges which the thief made.

5. If/when you recover your phone consider wiping it totally clean and starting over. You don't know what malicious apps someone has downloaded on it. But first, consider if your important information is stored in a cloud - or you might not get that restored after the wipe.

Whew! I'm thankful now that I only use my cell phone as an emergency phone if I'm stranded somewhere with car trouble. At least I can call for help!

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
