The garden is put to bed for the winter - so, no stories about that for the next number of months. But I have begun my deep cleaning inside my home, and find that can get quite exhausting too. Yet, it felt good to see the back porch look so much tidier on Saturday!
My poor fridge... it's begging for retirement! It does not automatically defrost (can't recall if it ever did), but my parents had it when I moved home to care for them in 1983, and I've had it since 2007 when I moved to this little house. That's a total of 52 years old; it may be even older than that!
I had turned it off on Friday night and set some bowls of hot water in the freezer compartment. Saturday morning the first thing I had to do was a lot of mopping up. The thick layers of ice had melted and everything on the lower shelves was in puddles. Two cartons of eggs were sopping wet! Underneath the vegetable drawer was a puddle that took two big towels to mop up!
I found myself sighing because I go through this every 3-4 weeks and it is getting to be an unpleasant chore. I can't afford a brand new one, but I've resolved to go looking for a better, newer one than this one - this week!
Oh, have I told you why I need a different, a smaller car? Maybe not.
Okay, God provided this big Black Beauty (Buick) in 2013, when I really needed another car. It has
served me well but I've been noticing over the last few months, that this car is too big for me.
1. I've scratched up the sides a few times trying to get into or backing out of my tent garage and
the gate.
2. I have shrunk so much in height, that I have to scoot the front seat as far forward as it will
go, and tilt the steering wheel down into my lap so I can see over the top.
3. But worst of all the seat belt cuts across my throat. So in an accident I might lose my head!
Now, I don't spend a lot of time worrying about this. The Lord has protected me so far, but it just makes good sense to get a smaller or mid-sized car that is scaled better for my height.
Again, I don't have a lot of money set aside for this, and I hear that small and mid-sized used cars are hard to find these days in Saskatoon, so I've started praying from time to time, for another car miracle. I do believe the LORD loves me enough, and cares about my safety, to do such a miracle again. No time pressures, but I remember vividly how this "Black Beauty" was offered to me and the sale completed in 24 hours in February of 2013, so I think He could do it again.
Yesterday I took a break to watch a couple of Youtube videos about things NOT TO DO if you have
Osteoporosis. I learned that if we are getting older, or have been diagnosed with osteoporisis we
should;
- avoid bending over to pick up heavy objects (oh-oh! Done that!)
- avoid plopping yourself into a chair when exhausted - the jarring can cause a fracture
- do only gentle exercises; don't over-do the heavy-duty motions -fragile bones fracture easily!
- do not become totally sedentary either - bones do get stronger with some exercise!
- short walks are ideal
- do not hesitate to use canes or walkers - far better than stumbling and falling!
