Gearing up for Reunion Weekend

It is still about two and a half weeks away, but my mind is gearing up for this short weekend away, to celebrate my brother Ernie and his wife, Dori's wedding, which took place on July 17th 2020. However, due to COVID restrictions they had it alone, with just the minister and two witnesses in a studio. Last summer's plans to celebrate the joining of their families fell through for the same reason.

This year we are definitely going to have this reunion! But it appears we will be a rather small group. My nieces and nephews with their children (Most of whom I've never met in person!) will not be there. It will be us three sisters of Ernie's and Dori's two daughters and three granddaughters.

They have planned two full days of activities and fine meals.

So here I am trying on dresses I have not worn in years, hoping to find one that fits, and that will roll up well for my carry-on luggage.

There is also the matter of squeezing in time to make a few gifts.

I'll tell you all about it when I get back!

By the way, a very Happy July 1st for all my Canadian Readers.

And a very Happy Independence Day on July 4th for all my American Readers.

Yeast for Cucumber Plants?

A couple of weeks ago I saw a video about mixing some yeast with sugar in warm water and then spooning this mixture like fertilizer under the first leaves of a cucumber plant when they no longer touching the ground.

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to find that video again, and I've only discovered that there are countless other people with advice in this regard, but they are not all singing the same tune. Some believe it has to be sprayed on the leaves. Some say to mix a bucket full and to water the plants - including others - about 3 times with this mix.

The quantities of yeast and sugar are not consistent either.

So I'm not ready to give this to you as advice, but if you wish to experiment and tell me how it goes for you, I'll run my experiment too, and we'll compare notes. I will err on the side of caution, and work with a small amount, and leave some cucumber plants untouched. That way I can tell which method - or none, - works best.

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
