Christmas Day Plans!

What are your plans for Christmas Day? Will you have guests or are you going to join another household? At least the restrictions are not as severe as they were last year.

I've invited two single friends over for a Christmas Supper, and I just had a tip that a certain friend would be glad to be invited, so that will make four around my little green dinning table. The two guests already invited accepted enthusiastically, and have already offered to contribute things like ice cream cake, fruits, nuts, etc.

We had an ESL social at church on Saturday, and I got a gift of 1 kg of chocolate Truffles! They are delicious. Also a case of clementine oranges. I hope I can restrain myself so there will be some left to share this Saturday - for our Christmas Dinner/Supper!

My church Deacons gave me a gift card for Walmart, so I went there and bought a fairly large turkey. So I'm glad to share.

The guest that came by this morning asked if he could come pick up two Christmas dinners from me (he has already paid me well too!) He has a family member at his house who is not able to go out at all, so this will be a good way for them to have a good hot meal without having to do all the kitchen work themselves.

Isn't it amazing - how if you keep your eyes and ears open - you find that there are many little ways to bless others around a holiday time like this!? I hope you snap up those opportunties when they present themselves to you!

Quick Deep Cleaning Tips Before Christmas

It occurs to me that you may also be hoping to get some serious deep cleaning done before the extended family or guests arrive on Saturday for Christmas Day. I got started on my kitchen Saturday before last, but this past week was absorbed in the ESL Social, so I'm hoping to get to it later today and tomorrow and maybe some on Friday too.

Because I've lost so much in height, I need a step-ladder to get to the upper shelves in the kitchen. I bring out everything on those shelves, then spray the insides of those shelf areas with a strong cleaner, and wipe up with a good-sized wet cloth.

Then I pick out the things I have not used in years, and set them aside to dispose of, or to give away if still viable. I like to put the keeper stuff into clear plastic bins, with covers, or into cardboard boxes which I've covered with some wrapping paper or whatever else I have at hand to make them look nicer than a jumble of loose stuff that attracts bugs and sticky dust. I place the bins/boxes of things I rarely ever use, on the top shelves, and the most handy things on the lower shelves. It is often surprising how much free space is left when I do this!

My goal is also to clear up clutter on the counters and table. I'm used to having them handy there, but it is time to stop and ask myself - how often do I really use "This?" It really does feel good when the clutter is gone, and the surfaces are clean and open for use.

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
