Weeding My Garden - Ready for Tilling

Yes, it is gardening time! Normally, I would try to do my seeding the Victoria Day weekend, but that was not possible. As happened last year, my fertile garden had flourishing crop of weeds as soon as the snow melted. Or so it seemed. I didn't want the man with the rotortiller to plow them into the garden, so I took time to pull several giant bags full of weeds to toss into the garbage bin, BEFORE I called Rob to come with his rototiller.

I admitted to myself that I better get at it last weekend, hoping to get all done by this next weekend, the last of May. So I started weeding on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, and again, yesterday morning. That session mainly in my long and plentiful row of green onions.

I came in for lunch and then found myself getting so sleepy that my head just hung down. So I decided a nap. I had a sound sleep from about 2-4 pm.

When I woke I wondered why my face felt like it was exuding heat. I dashed into the bathroom to look in the mirror. Oh-oh! A sunburn! When I looked at my hands they were several shades darker than usual too.

I decided to give up an hour or so to catch up on emails, and one was from a client whom I'd been trying to reach for the last couple of weeks as I was convinced his blog was hacked. I decided to phone him to explain the problem, and it became apparent it was a serious situation. He agreed that I could delete the blog and try to restore the static site I'd built for him some years ago.

At one point I popped something into the oven to heat for my supper and was back at the computer. But by the time I'd finished six short ribs with a nice sauce, it looked like I could go out to weed again. I made considerable progress on the east side of the path but have a large clump of tall weeds to work on yet today. As soon as I have sent this off to you.

I did dash out after breakfast and took a few photos to give you a sense of what I see in my garden right now. There will be more photos as the summer progresses.

Here are just 4 clumps of the green onions I weeded on Sat and yesterday, Victoria Day. If you can drop by, I'll gladly dig up a clump or two for you!

I just spotted this morning, 3 volunteer spinach plants that have come up among the weeds. I guess I can make a salad today.

Here's my thriving rhubarb plant by the rain barrel.

Here's my thriving rhubarb plant by the rain barrel. Two weeks ago there were just wee little plants the size of my finger poking up. (I dug one up to give to Rita). I had meant to separate the little plants and spread them out so I could have several big ones. Now I wonder... is it too late to do that?

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
