Yes, I think it will work out best this coming Sunday; the come-n-go Garden Viewing that I've been hinting at for weeks. The hollyhocks are still producing more pink flowers, and the Kaiser Kronen (Emperor's Crown) Asian lilies are blooming like crazy with circles of outward facing lilies on top of almost every stem.
The raspberry hedge is bearing nice big red and yellow raspberries, so I'm trying to work in time every other morning to pick raspberries. I invited my neighbours to have a turn yesterday, but they didn't come, so I will have to make time later to do it myself. Or, too many berries will fall to the ground.
The zucchini have great big yellow trumpet flowers and I expect to be picking zucchini soon. They make a great stir-fry with some chopped onion and eggs stirred in. (mushrooms too, when I've bought some).
I have two patches of watermelon plants, and the earlier patch is starting to show small baby watermelons. (The other patch is trying to catch up but have not reached the blossom stage yet.)
So... I am keeping busy in my gardening blocks of time, trying to get the weeding all caught up and to water the garden every evening, so that it will be a pleasure to show it all off on Sunday.
Since city people don't normally have a garden, it surprises first-time visitors that my whole backyard is all garden! Of course, my yard is fairly small, so it doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes to walk down the center path and see it all. If we stand and chat for a while it will take longer.
I'll be happy to cut some long green onion stems/leaves to give away. They have been lying down on their sides with the weight of them.
I'll also try to have some snacking food on hand in the patio so visitors can have a bite to eat before they go. You are welcome to sit down and visit a spell too.
Oh yes, I need to make time to let my friends within driving distance know about this. I will be expecting people between 1-5 or 6 pm.
Last year only one couple with a young daughter, and a single neighbour came. So I think my invitations were not appealing enough. I must try to do better this time!
(Photo tour - is most likely next week).
