I have just received a hilarious wedding description from a subscriber to the RoseBouquet, and I would love to share that with you, but I need to ask permission first. So maybe next week.
Meantime, I guess I can do the Canadian thing (we are famous apparently, for talking about our weather at the drop of a pin), and describe our weather today. But if you are a long-time reader, you may well know that I try to avoid just rattling along about the weather. There is nothing we can do about it, and if we hate what we have at the moment and complain about it we just infect others with our negative attitude.
But while I'm searching my mind for a better topic, maybe the weather will have to do.
The weathernetwork website will tell you that our city (and most of Saskatchewan) is enduring -29 Celsius which feels like -39 C because of the winds. I take heart because I have a little weather station on my hi-boy in the bedroom which is hooked up to a sensor outside of the house, and it tells me that it is only -23C outside. While it was still dark outside when I got up it was -27, so I cheer myself up with, "Yeah, it has warmed up by 4 degrees!"
By the afternoon when I plan to go out for another chiropractor appointment it may only be -22 C. Still better!
Of course, when it is this cold we usually have clear skies of bright blue and a brilliant sun. So I look out of my window here by my desk and cheer myself up by admiring that lovely blue spread so evenly all over the sky. The tree branches look all dried up with unattractive twigs - so I just shift my view up higher to stay focused on the blue sky.
I grew up in this province and so have many years of experience with these winters, but I've learned not to dwell on the cold or stormy days. They will pass. Reading and writing, whether online or off, helps to take my mind off the outdoor weather.
(SIGH!) Unless I need to go somewhere, then I can't help but worry a bit about having car troubles, or getting stuck somewhere - Oh! what if I'll have to walk some distance to find help? Then I scold myself for giving too many minutes for such worries. However, some bad experiences have taught me to always dress very warm in the winter. When it is this cold I will wear my long brown suede coat with the big hood with the furry trim that I have to keep lifting out of my eyes. I prepare with extra big bulky gloves or mitts, in case my favourite ones are not warm enough. I wear warm pants over my leggings, and bulky sweaters, and 2 pairs of socks in my boots.
I charge up my cell phone too, just in case I need to call the CAA for a boost or tow. Fortunately, I normally have it totally turned off and tucked into my purse, so it doesn't get run down easily. (It's at 91% right now).
Now I am hoping and praying for milder weather on Thursday. My friend's mother passed away with a heart attack, and her brother has organized a graveside service only in the cemetery. The hospital has promised to see that my friend will be there too, and I've promised to be there for her moral support. So I think it will only be a matter of minutes. Still, for my friend's sake, I really hope the temperature gets much warmer than today. (Weathernetwork says it will be -15 C but I'm praying and hoping it will get warmer than that).
Now, I suppose if you don't have to deal with winters like this, maybe you are in a warm tropical place, where you complain of the heat and keep looking for an indoor place with air conditioning. Or, wait...! Maybe you have learned to adjust to the heat just the way I've adapted my habits in regard for our cold?
See? Our score is even after all! Just different extremes. :)
