At My Place: A Mess of Photos

It won't surprise you to find that I've got a number of projects on the go at the same time. The most obvious one though is the mess of old photos spread over the desk beside this one. Something came up last week - a request for photos for the Memorial of my Uncle Isbrand who died in December in Chilliwack, BC. (Just days from his 93rd birthday). The step-family has decided to have a memorial service for him in May.

I won't be able to be there, but I was asked if I had any photos of him, especially older ones from his youth. Well, I was sure I probably did, since I have become the keeper of the photos of my Gr'ma Kroeker (his mother), and my parents, and also Uncle George who lived in Manitoba most of his adult life.

At first I had the impression that they needed them within the week, so I went through some bins of photos downstairs in my basement, and narrowed the best chance of finding such photos in the smallest bin - which I was thankful to manage to bring upstairs. I also had a box with some photos that I had peeled out of old albums with soft black pages, and some in albums with lines of glue underneath, and plastic page covers. However, once exposed to room temperatures they were curling up!

I sorted through them and discovered my filing system had got messed up, hence the piles of photos all over my desk. I narrowed down the best choices of my uncle to 19, and I scanned those.

(A cousin of mine, and the wife of one of his step sons agreed that he had always been the clans' most prolific photographer - so finding ones where he was in fact the subject of the photo was rather tricky).

I did get the scanned photos off to the step-son's wife by the end of last week. However, then I realized that I hadn't got my income tax forms finished yet, and so I've got those papers spread on top of the photos that have yet to get a filing spot in the bin, and my goal is to get them completed before Friday so I can get them into the mail on time.

Okay, that's two projects making messes here. I'll stop at that. You get the idea, I'm sure.

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
