I know I've said before that I don't often resort to talking about the weather, as that usually indicates our life is very tame - not much happening. But if, like me you are used to, even resigned to having winter straight through from about October to early April, when a short spring arrives we get excited.
So we had that one Thursday/Spring week before last. Today the temperature is 3 above 0C, which means melting snow! And bright sunshine!
Tomorrow there are to be light flurries, but then the next five days sunshine and temperatures will range from -3 to 0 with bright sunshine for those 5 days. It's like a vacation coming to spend time with us right here where we live; no traveling or accommodation costs!
May I wish you such a vacation too?
Still, with winter on my mind, and milder days that seem like a surprise visit of Spring, I have a tip for you if you find keeping your steps and sidewalks clear tedious or a bore.
I have found that going out to sweep the steps and walk after a light snowfall, with a good stiff broom, means that when the sun comes out - even if the temperatures are still freezing and cold - the sunshine will warm the sidewalk and the steps, and even the snow beside the cement path will melt a bit each day that the sun shines, and those drifts and heaps of shoveled snow will begin a slow shrinking process.
Then, when the temperatures are above freezing point, voila, the sun shrinks those snow banks more and more.
With this plan I only go out about once or twice a week to keep my front and garden walks clear, and I save my arms from a lot of heavy-duty shoveling of heavier snow.
