(What WAS The RoseBouquet (blog) has now moved HERE - Part of the Static Site)

Here's the Photo Surprise I Promised!

I did go to that baby shower on Saturday in Warman, and was amazed at how much work my friend and her two daughters put into decorations, etc., and trays of fantastic foods, and then the heaps of supurb gifts that my friend's son and daughter-in-law got for this long-awaited baby girl - still to be born some weeks away.

As I wrote last week:

I used to make stuff animals when I went to such showers back in my years in London, Ontario. I still treasure one compliment I got when I was sitting in a living room full of women and the young mother-to-be came in. As soon as she spied me, she cried out, "Oh Goodie! Ruth is here; I'm going get a teddy bear!"

In those days, (1970s) I was a Pioneer Girls leader, having the pre-teens meet at the church on Tuesday evenings, and the teen girls coming to my apartment on Sunday afternoons. These meetings often involved crafts. One teen girl said she wished she could make a teddy bear for her boyfriend.

I said, to hang on; I had a pattern for a teddy bear with movable arms and legs. I would make one first to learn the steps, and then help them to each make one. It took a number of Sundays, but eventually that group of girls each had finished a teddy bear too.

Well, that led to making Holly Hobby dolls, stuffed elephants, rabits, Bambies, etc. I even had a few regular customers who called and asked for certain things, and paid for them. Since I was afraid I would forget over time, that I ever made them, I took photos and have a 2-3in binder full of my craft projects!

I considered taking it along to the shower to show them off, but decided against that. If anyone wanted to place orders, I would have a hard time saying "No," and I really do NOT have the time for yet another career/job! I had to snitch small blocks of time from my business agenda, and house-cleaning time to get this elephant made.

I chose this idea because I knew if I decided on teddy bear I'd have to go shopping first for the fur and the hardware (cotter pins, etc) for the joints. However, I was sure I had remnants enough to make the baby elephant from the patterns I have for both a Mama and a baby elephant. Since we knew they are going to have a girl I could my imagination to dress it up some.

I don't have time to go through my album and pick out a few samples of other crafts... Just deciding - would take gobs of time!

I did show them to a friend who dropped by last week, and his jaw fell away as he said, "This shows a side of you I never knew before!"

Yes...but working on Ellie (I name and talk to the animals while stitching on them) reminded me that I have become about two decades older, and the crouching over the sewing machine and then doing the finishing stitches by hand is quite ex-haus-ting! So I must steel myself to say "no" to any impromptu orders.

I did this to honour my dear friend and prayer-sister of many years. (Until Saturday, I had never met her daughter-in-law).

<*> TIPS & SOLUTIONS: <*>

Make Electrolyte Powder (instead of Sports Drinks)

If you ever find yourself on the verge of a loose bowel or diahrea, you may reach for a sports drink or a can of ginger ale. But you don't have to use those drinks (which contain sugar or substitues). There is a simple remedy you can make and keep handy in your kitchen.

Make your own Electrolyte Powder and add it to your filtered drinking water. (remembered and did this on Sunday and cleared up an upset tummy).

You need just 3 basic ingredients, mix, and put in a jar with an air-tight lid.
- 1/2 cup of pure salt, such as sea salt, but without additives such as anti-caking agents.
- 1 3/4 tsp Potassium Chloride powder - also without addititives.
- 1/2 tsp of Magnesium glycinate powder - usually available where vitamins are sold.

Add just a half (1/2) tsp of your Electrolyte powder to a litre or 32 oz. of filtered drinking water (it could be a fruit or vegetable juice too), stir well, and drink from this water or juice as you normally would.

In a short while your stomach will feel much better!

I now add it to every litre of drinking water on my kitchen counter, and even headaches seem to be chased away.

P.S. Due to relentless efforts to hack into the blog, I have deleted it and move my weekly posts to this Department on my novel's site, which is all about my Friends being my Roses or RoseBouquet, and has been from the beginning, in 2001.
