Web Site Options for Christian Authors
|
You're a Christian writer, or you are making serious moves to become a professional
writer. This means becoming methodical and business-like besides being creative
and very effective with words.
You know you need a Web site... BECAUSE you want readers, fans, and editors
with more writing opportunties for you to CHECK you out and do
BUSINESS with you!
Do you have a book coming out? an eBook? You need a web site to sell it!
Preferrably automated, so you can get back to writing - which you love.
I bet the problem is; you haven't been online very long, or you just don't know
where to start. Technology has a dense fog hanging over you as far as you're
concerned.
Or, maybe you've tried one of those free sites with online web editors... and
frankly, it embarrasses you. It doesn't look sharp or represent you professionally.
On top of that, although you don't live in an attic (not so likely nowadays) -
you're as poor as the proverbial church mouse and can't afford thousands
of dollars for a professional site. (So it doesn't surprise me that you're avoiding
those web masters).
There's basically four sensible options I would suggest to you.
1. There's the Do-it-Yourself route that I took.
It's FREE but it takes a quite a while longer.
2. You could always hire a professional, or a whiz-kid from school (whom
you'd hope to supervise and guide to the look and feel of the site as
you plan it.
3. There IS some excellent software that you can use to build it, which
doesn't call for any technical knowledge, but which produces a top-notch
business site. (More later).
4. Or, if you're desperate enough you could tug my heart strings and
hire me
at bargain basement fees for a template and instructions for how to maintain
it yourself. Over time you'd become familiar with the HTML and find yourself fully
in the designer/builder's seat, adding or changing your site as you see
fit.
I did it MY way
Let me tell you how I learned this skill. As a writer myself I'm just itching to
share
this story. Hey, it could save you some dead ends in the learning maze.
Back to our goal; helping YOU decide how to get your author's site
up and winning friends for you. And SALES. Don't forget you want sales!
Okay. Maybe you just want friends... That's great too.
If you can't see yourself taking time to teach and do-it-yourself, there are
still other excellent options. Let's not overlook the obvious.
2nd Option:
You could seek out professionals, and pay for first-class, guaranteed work with
all the latest features build in.
This assumes that;
1. You can afford it
2. You know what to ask for
3. You are prepared to pay for maintenance too.
It pains me to tell you, (and maybe I shouldn't if you haven't gone pricing them
out yet), but I've recently seen sites of web-mistresses that charge prices like
$97 for a single template, or $600 for a 3 page site, or one I saw recently,
Linda Carroll, is very popular and can incorporate anything into the site
- charges $2000 - $3000 for a site!
Yeah, OUCH! What are the other options?
3rd Option:
Well, there's that software I mentioned earlier. It's called SiteBuildIt.
(You may find you already have a window open ready to give you a Tour of it.
If not, click here
and go through the 5 screens to get a taste).
SiteBuildIt is a software/services package you use at the SiteSell site, but
oh-h, it's the BMW or Rolls Royce of what is out there! Yet at a fraction
of the cost of those Whiz Web-Mistresses! It's not just a site builder,
but a very savvy search engine submitter, a marketer, a web host, and includes
your domain name registration too! It's full of modules, and more are constantly
being added. Actually, the cost per year is one tenth of what all its
parts would cost you separately.
I'll let them tell you all about this
E-BusinessBuilder as they can explain it far better.
Or... here's a
comprehensive list of the resources and info related to SiteBuildIt!
Hey, you can even have this; a free download of the
Site BuildIt Guide. (See what the Owners see when trained).
4th Option:
Hire me in interim - if you're desperate enough - and can't afford the SBI route
yet either. I charge very low rates because I'm self-taught, limited in time,
(that is, I can only give one evening a week to this work), and I don't do things
like iframes, huge catalogues, flash movies, etc. I'm into the plain-Jane
little author sites.
However, I've discovered that I do have skills which many of my Christian author
friends don't have, and I'm a friendly, sharing kind of woman, so I'm game to
help out a few people.
Hey, to tell the truth, I've got ideas for several more websites of my own,
and a little extra cash to put them up on an SBI site would tickle me pink! Still,
if you'd rather go directly there and do it with the
Top of the Cream,
be my guest! I admit that's your smartest move!
My Web Design for
Christian Authors has
all the steps and some sample ideas or templates up to show you what I might do
for you.
When you go comparing prices you'll want to know what it would cost to use me,
right? Well, for $50 a template, and $20 page, you could be paying $150 for a
5 page site ready to upload.
(I do offer a 50% discount if we work so well together I can get your template
made in two work sessions! Assuming you don't need any further help from me).
I can show you where to get a domain for under $10/year, and hosting for $50-100
or $120 a year. If you're really broke, you can use some good quality free hosts
for a while, as I've done. So you could escape with a cost of under $300.
(Or under $100 if you qualify for the discount AND you decide to go to a free
host for your start).
I'd give you directions on how to maintain your web site and add more pages as
you wish. Really, you can become your own web designer; either the slow do-it-yourself
route, or this quicker start.
(If you don't end up on my waiting list! :)
So what's your choice? Feel free to take time to pray and think about it. I sure
don't make decisions of this scale so suddenly either. But I look forward to
hearing from you! Be sure of that! (Use this
For Authors' form).
If you opt to go the SiteBuildIt path, you'll be blessed with still FASTER
RESULTS, and with an immediately successful e-Business, while I'll be blessed
with a tidy little commission. :)
Blessings & Thanks,
Ruth
P.S. By the way, I recently saw this
case study of someone hired to try out SBI as a test.
Rupert knew nothing from nothing about affiliate programs, but now he's drawing
$1000/month incomes from them - just from following the directions with SBI!
(Suddenly SBI! makes more sense, eh?)
P.S.S. Oh yes, and the founder's 14-year old daughter has a site up that is
making her cash - just for raving about her favourite holiday beaches. Imagine!
