You don't really have time to read on the couch, but if you're like me, you do read snatches on the run, and somehow make time to read a GOOD book completely.

So how can you be sure this Ruthe in the book is not some kook? Read the eight sample chapters.

When you are new to the Christian lifestyle, or even if just plain super-busy, it is handy to have someone provide a short, inspirational daily reading for you, that will quickly turn your mind to spiritual values, and help you to connect with God and His truth. Preferrably on a daily basis.

Ultimately, I think it is best for abundant living in Christ, to learn to draw our own spiritual manna or feeding from God's Word. It is so comforting to peer through tears into an open Bible, find beloved, well-marked passages, and to sense that God is speaking those words again to me.

Or, to have some serious questions about a topic, and to get out a concordance, and the Bible and look up all the passages, and mine them for the gems of truth hidden in them.

I can only say that such Bible studies on my own have made Jesus more precious to me!

However, I do want to help those who have not learned that yet, and as newborn babies, need to be fed regularly, so they don't get sickly and fall away from the faith. To that end, I'm preparing some of my private devotional materials into e-books, and have just recently started putting the first one into a blog, and also sending it as a free daily ezine (Monday through Fridays). This is so that I may share them with you and whoever needs them.

I've also found a few daily devotionals online that you can bookmark and go visit regularly every day, or as often as you are able - and you may be blessed and taught by them.

A little bit of research on Google has revealed far more than I had imagined, but of course, not all are of the same good quality. Besides, some will appeal more to one person's way of thinking than another. If you are not sure where to begin, look up these, and see if they touch you and speak truth to your soul. (the first two are on my site here, and automatically updated from Back to the Bible's end every day);

Elisabeth Elliot Daily Devotional
Elizabeth's first husband, Jim Elliot, was martyred by the Auca Indians in South America, and later she went to teach the gospel in that very same tribe, with her young daughter Valerie in tow. Elizabeth has very high moral and spiritual standards, and I have been much blessed by her writings which are always full of delightful little stories too. You can learn more about Elizabeth on her site.

The Bible Minute
These short one-minute reads are by Woodrow Kroll, the Bible teacher on Back to the Bible's daily radio program. You may also sign up to get this every day by email.

Other devotionals I can recommend:

Insights for Leaders - A. W. Tozer
One of the most profound Christian thinkers and writers of the last two or three generations! Tozer was a very humble and godly man.

Keys for Kids
Wonderful daily devotionals, with short real-life stories, for kids. Start them early learning to set aside time to spend with God, and His Word. It will make their lives richer, and more Christ-like.

Backto the Bible has a number of devotions to choose from. Use the drop down menu on the right to see the long list. There also some daily Bible reading guides, and other resources to get you learning and growing little by little every day in understanding your Christian faith, and how to live it out.

There's another site with a long list of what appear to be excellent devotional sites, at MyFaith.com/devotionals.htm It would be a good idea to browse around for a few days, and then settle on one or two good ones to stick with for at least a few months. When things get dull and too routine, it is time for a change.

In any case, no matter what devotional helps you read, remember to personalize everything in your prayers to God. Otherwise you have only tasted and licked at spiritual food, but have not swallowed any of it. It won't do you true lasting good.

Note: I prepared a Christmas Devotional e-booklet as a gift for friends. It has 13 short Bible studies from the Christmas story in various gospels in the New Testament. Reading this could be a great way to prepare your heart and mind for Christmas - if studied in the weeks just ahead of the holiday in December.

On the other hand, you could read and study these passages at any time you want to bring back some of the lessons from the Christmas events. Perhaps you were so busy prior to Christmas that you need to stop some time after it is over to consider what it all meant.
