The words fantasies, and wishes, are not in the Bible. I know, because I once wanted to know what
God thought about them, and hunted for them. In Shattered Hopes Renewed Hearts Dr. Maribeth Ekay
lays out in simple terms and explanations the answers that I sought. Psychologists may other terms,
but this approach opens understanding in a wonderfully clear way.
Dr. Ekay shows how we wish even as infants, and when these are not met we respond in several
predictable ways, such as splitting, spoiling, or wishing for an ideal. Some mourn chronically in
depression or bitterness and some suffer shame.
Permission to mourn these early losses is a major plus of this book. After accepting our losses, we
can see our lives more honestly and learn to invest ourselves in healthy and effective dreams and
plans, plans that line up with God's will, and make us fulfilled and fruitful in Christ. Ekay lays
this all out so plainly anyone can understand and apply the counsel. I'm sure she will be much in
demand to speak on this topic, and many will be helped by the book alone. May their numbers be
legion.
