Taking Possession of my New Home at 903 23rd Street
I took possession of my very own first home on Friday, June 1, 2007! It's a humble beginning, but wait until you see what will become of it!
Today is June 6. I had hoped to have both Before and After photos for this story but have lost the photos of the last few days from my camera's memory chip, so this page will only have the BEFORE state of my home - as it was the day I took possession of it. In the last five days a lot of changes have happened there already! You'll see those on another page soon.
The front of the house just before I got posssession.
I should add that when Alvin handed me the keys, he said that he'd had to list the house on the internet, and of course immediately after put through that it had sold. In those few moments, at least 30 people had seen the house, and had rushed to phone him to ask him about it!
Stepping up closer, can you see the missing window panes in the porch?

There was a lot of crud on the front steps, but I soon swept and ripped away that carpeting.
There was also a mess beside the front steps.

Coming around the front porch to the side gate, we spy some lily of the valley! Well, someone has planted flowers here once!
Here's the sagging side gate to go around to the back. Joe and Penny's big Labador dogs always come rushing to greet me with their long tongues sticking out! (Penny says their greatest danger is that they might lick someone to death)
Oh-ew-w! Look at this back door mess
But then, lift your eyes to see the backyard - facing south.

We walk up closer to the back gate. Joe, my neighbour, discovered that although it sags and is broken, he could open it. It is wide enough to drive through!
Notice the lilacs! All last weekend the air was heavy there with the scent of lilacs!

Turning back to face the house, we see the mess by the west fence, the one I share with Joe and Penny, my good friends. Their dogs follow me along that fence, waiting for a word or touch. :) If anyone nears either property, they let us know!
Oh, and I must not forget to mention the puppies! They had four. One is sold, one is saved for their grandson, and two are available. Penny would like to sell Shadow too, but Joe would rather send him south to their son Daniel in Georgia, if only someone would offer to take him.
See all that tossed furniture under the tree? Well, Joe took Friday off work, and he was busy clearing the back yard, mowing the lawn, and he loaded up three times with his truck and small trailer, to cart all that stuff, and what we found inside the house - AWAY! Just removing all that stuff made a huge difference!
Just a quick look - here's a narrow gate to the east side, for maintenance purposes only.
I might add though that on this side, my neighbours are a young couple with a young daughter, and the wife/mother greeted me over the fence on Friday with a hearty, happy handshake. She said, "I've waited SO LONG for this day! Now I can finally let my little girl play outside again!" We had a nice little chat, and I think we'll soon be great friends.
See my blog for more details. The inside transformation photos are the ones that are lost, but hopefully I can quickly get more taken. I sure hope I don't have to have the expense of buying another memory card for the camera! This is not a good month for another expense!
But then I'm happy to say that mostly so far I've used up huge gobs of elbow grease, and I get that free from the Lord!
