Early March Snows in Hague

My early morning tracks in the March 1/06 snowfall

The depth of the snow in front of the door after I had cleared the driveway.

That was all on March 1. The town grader came and scraped our street clean. But on Saturday, March
4th it started snowing again! We were in the city for the afternoon, and found the highway just
passable yet on our return trip.
I failed to take photos on Sunday morning when I shoveled the little cement driveway, while Dad
cleared a path through the garden to get another shovel for the car from the back shed. It was still
snowing so we decided to stay home from church.

At noon the sun came out, and it looked like it was all over. We saw a neighbour across the street,
go up on his roof to shovel the heavy wet snow off.
Monday the 6th was okay, as we went to Saskatoon, for another dental appointment for Dad. He had all
his teeth out.
The next morning the radio was full of warnings to stay off the road. A misty rain was freezing and
causing many accidents. It let up later in the day so we went to the fundraising concert in
Saskatoon... I was committed; I had to go. But it all turned out okay.
Coming home we drove in a misty rain, but it turned to snow before we were half home. It continued
to snow all that night.

Wednesday and Thursday the snow grader was scraping up the snows into high ridges in the center of
the road, and then, gradually, a few streets each day, but working long hours, they scooped it up
with a forklift and trucked it away.
Dad had already taken many scoops full
of snow around the house to the garden, but now he pushed some out into the street so Jim could lift
it into the trucks too with the forklift.
The forklift is dumping snow into this truck. In minutes the next
one will pull up.
Again, dumping gobs of snow unto the truck.

Dad kept pushing out more snow to get it off our small lawn
Glancing to our left is the mountain
on our neighbour's lawn. Larry is a strong young man; he can shovel it higher!
Today, March 9, the temperatures rose, the sun came out, and dripping was to be heard everywhere.
Let's go see the back yard.

There's our deep snow path through the garden to the back shed. At least 2 to 3 feet deep!

Do you see the animal tracks going over the snow drift?
I'm guessing a cat.

Dad had dug out the smaller rain barrel this
morning. Shortly after I took this photo he went out again and set that white barrel under that
downspout. It was +5 and even + 7 outside! The barrel was almost half full by evening when Dad and
I poured it into large pails and brought it in. Lovely, pure, clean water!
Shovelling snow is fine exercise, but how much more is going to fall on us before spring? Oh-well,
it's nothing as serious as the hurricanes in the southern USA.
